Kindness

In this post, I want to talk about kindness.

Now, before I plunge in, let me state the jist of the post. This post isn't about how people lack kindness. It's about how these people don't know how to or are afraid of showing their kindness. Or at least, I believe that there are kind-hearted people out there, just that they don't seem to exist because of their shyness or timidness. To support my statement, the book I'm reading now - "The Fine Art of Small Talk" tells me that the worst fear isn't the fear of spiders or huge ass moths (since moths are the craze now in Singapore). The worst or most common fear is the fear of rejection and the fear of rejection can be linked to timidness.

To start off, you guys should watch this video. I'm sure most people have come across this viral video.

Life Vest Inside - Kindness Boomerang - "One Day"

I really like this video because I'm a firm believer of karma. A good deed for a good deed, no matter how big or how small. I feel that the real rationale behind karma is often misunderstood. It's not about how someone doing bad will receive something worse in return. It's about how doing good would make the world a better place for everyone and in turn, benefit oneself.

Frankly, I'm not religious person but I try my best to help the people in need especially the disabled and budding musicians and talented people on the streets.

Just two days ago, I was on my way back from my squad's BBQ. Upon alighting at the MRT station nearest to my house, I heard and saw a visually impaired man asking for help. Don't picture him as a helpless person. Don't take away his dignity. He just needed a little assistance. In fact, he was well-dressed in a black long sleeve shirt, jeans and dress shoes. He was at another exit and 6 adults just walked past him. Giving them the benefit of doubt, maybe they didn't notice him or maybe they don't dare to. So..I went forward and said that I could offer help and held him by his arm and helped him out of the station. Ended up waiting awhile for a taxi after he asked if I could help him to the taxi stand. This was the first time something like that happened to me. His smile was all I needed, overwhelmed with gratitude.

Back to today, I was heading home after X-Men: Days of Future Past with Vanessa, a friend of mine. I saw a wheelchair bound man selling tissue paper. The traffic light at the pedestrian crossing was turning red but I went back and slotted $2 into his box. He said "Thank You" 4 times. From the article attached to the box, he had cerebral palsy which is a permanent and non-progressive disorder of muscles groups which causes physical disability. He tried searching for a job but to no avail. (Sorry to Vanessa for having to wait for the green light again though hahaha)

Digressing a little, X-Men was awesome. I really love the plot and the fact that the movie focuses on the themes: Faith, Hope and Belief. (I shall not spoil it for you guys)

Remember the Kindness Boomerang? I boarded a shuttle bus at the MRT station. Unfortunately, there were no seats so I had to stand and bend down while leaning my shoulder blades against the uneven ceiling at the back of the bus. There was a CHIJ girl sitting next to me. I bumped my head into the ceiling twice? I think it was twice. And she tapped my hand and offered me her seat. I swear things like that rarely happen to me. Usually, people would just laugh when I hit my head against something when I'm aboard a bus or a train.....

To the girl in the blue pinafore, I don't know who you are but you have a beautiful smile. I would totally ask you out or something HAHA. But then, all I managed to say was "Thank you very much" and return a smile. (My bad)
It would probably be the only time I would see her. Hmm, at least I know where she alights LOL. And there you have it, things like that do happen in real life. We just don't see it. So the next time you feel like you are treated unfairly, or are just not treated as well as others are being treated, why not start the boomerang going?

That's all I have for you guys today.
P.S. That smile she had though.
